Q. What are the qualifications to become an MFM Volunteer Educator?
To become an MFM Volunteer Educator, you must:
- Enjoy singing
- Like working with groups of children
- Complete the MFM Training
- Be available to teach ½ hour per week during the rest of the school year, as well as the following school year
Q. Where can I teach?
Volunteer Educators are placed in classrooms at schools that would be a good match for both them and the school. MFM partners with local schools and every effort is made to meet requests depending on vacancies and a school’s need for a music program. If you are interested in being placed at a specific school or classroom and they have a need, then chances are high it will be a good fit. See map of current participating schools.
Q. When do I start my training?
MFM Training is offered once each year, beginning every September and running through November. Training schedule.
Q. What is the Commitment of a Volunteer Educator?
A Volunteer Educator must commit to teaching at least one-half hour per week in an assigned classroom for the full school year.
Q. I have considerable background in music. Why should I even go through training?
You will have the opportunity to work in a field you enjoy and for which you are skilled. Training helps you learn and teach age-appropriate musical activities to reach children and get them involved in a classroom setting. Being part of the MFM community includes one-on-one mentoring and provides you the safety net and support you will need in your new classroom(s).
