Post Training:

Once trained, volunteers are placed in elementary schools throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. Volunteers teach in a K-3 grade classroom for a minimum of one half-hour per week for the remainder of the school year. Every effort is made to place volunteers in schools that meet their individual preferences.

Though MFM volunteers are required to teach only one half-hour class per week, it is recommended they teach two classes per week (usually scheduled back-to-back) to maximize their experience.

MFM volunteers learn what it is like to work with children in a classroom setting. They gain invaluable ideas, tips and support from other MFM volunteers and staff. They continue to grow and learn while gaining important confidence and expertise.

Many MFM Volunteer Educators continue in this role for years. There are volunteers in the MFM community who have been teaching music in the classroom for 20 years or longer.
